In this 11-week Live Class, Composition for the Visual Artist, legendary Artist, and Art Director Bill Perkins will guide you through the foundational principles of composition. Bill will first introduce the key elements of composition, applicable across both traditional and digital mediums. Through this Live Class, you will witness first-hand as he demonstrates the techniques that have underscored his illustrious career, and employ them in creating compelling artworks that offer a persuasive experience for viewers. In addition to imparting theory and techniques, Perkins will personally critique student submissions, providing invaluable insights and targeted improvements. By the end of this course, you'll have the tools and knowledge necessary to enhance your compositions, adding depth, balance, and intrigue to your visual storytelling.

Bill, will guide you through essential concepts, giving you a hands-on learning experience and providing personal feedback and advice. This is an awesome opportunity to dive deep into the content and benefit from Bill's expert critique and advice.

Please note that the interactive certificate and live class certificate are two separate offerings. Each has their own requirements for completion. Obtaining one does not automatically grant you the other.



Scheduling note: This Live Class will move over to Wednesdays starting September 13th. It will retain its 2 pm PT timeslot. Weeks 1-7 will be hosted on Tuesdays and to remaining weeks will be on Wednesdays.

Meet Your Instructor

Bill Perkins is a seasoned artist with over 35 years in the animation and film industry, having contributed to 42 films, TV shows, DVDs, short films, and video games. Notable highlights include his work at Walt Disney Feature Animation, where he started as a layout artist and progressed to art director on projects like "Aladdin" and "Rescuers Down Under." He later joined DreamWorks for "Shrek" and collaborated with ILM on "Frankenstein." Founder of High Street Studio, he served clients such as Disney and Paramount before reuniting with Disney for films like "Bolt," "Tangled," and "Frozen." Additionally, he has worked on projects for Warner Bros., Marvel Studios, and held the position of Executive of Visual Development at Marvel Studios while leading Entertainment Art at the Art Center College of Design.
